I really love this shot of the Eastern Towhee, Steve! The bird is very sharp and the the colorful berries are a beautiful addition to the overall composition.

Thanks so much, Mike!

Green-faced parrotfinch (Erythrura viridifacies) (external link) by Paolo Dolina (external link), on Flickr

A small bird of montane forest and scrub. Feeds on seeding bamboo. Green above with bright red rump and uppertail, pale blue underparts, and a whitish lower belly. Note the pinkish legs and thick black bill. Female is similar to the male but slightly duller. The only bird of a similar size and color in its range is Philippine Hanging-Parrot, which has a hooked red bill. Gives quiet “chink” calls.

I really like these two shots of the European Goldfinch in the rain, Sid! I can almost feel this bird's discomfort.

Beautifully captured shot, Steve! It really is an eye grabber. She stands out so nicely from the colorful blurred background.

A male Superb Fairy-wren (in deep shade) and a male Red-backed Fairy-wren taken at the Oxley Creek Common wetlands this morning.

It always helps when they pose for the photographer on a fence post or branch.:-)

Cheers

These two wren close-ups are really lovely shots, Dennis! They are both tack sharp and so beautifully colored.

I just got a 1.4x teleconverter version II and went out to the back of my property to try it out. No tripod, just handheld or up against a tree.
Anyhow, I would like a positive I.D. on this bird. I suspect what it is but I'll let the experts here decide. I know the second photo is not very sharp but these things were flitting around quickly and would not cooperate.

Thanks Mike, these are care of an RF 600mm F4L ISM USM that has now found its way into my collection. The 600mm with the RF x1.4 is ideal for these small. flighty birds.:-)

Cheers

A Crested Pigeon taken at Oxley Creek Common. This bird is found widely throughout mainland Australia except for the far northern tropical areas.:-)

Only two Australian pigeon species possess an erect crest, the Crested Pigeon and the Spinifex Pigeon. The Crested Pigeon is the larger of the two species. They make a whistling sound with their wings when they take off.

Cheers

Dennis

This is a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo taken at the Oxley Creek Common near Brisbane.

It is one of the largest of the several species of beautiful white cockatoos and is a highly intelligent bird.:-)
