Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) (external link) by Paolo Dolina (external link), on Flickr

Small snow-white heron with slender dark bill, blackish legs, and yellowish feet ("golden slippers"). Breeding adult has 2 long wispy head plumes and a spray of white plumes ("aigrettes") on the lower back. Inhabits a wide variety of wetlands: lakes, rivers, marshes, estuaries—almost anywhere with small fish. Occurs as singles or small loose groups; nests and roosts communally. Distinctive within its range, but compare with larger Great and Intermediate Egrets, stockier Cattle Egret, and white morph reef herons.

Now that's beautiful. Love that shade of green and dof/bg. Would love to visit the Philippines.

Very nicely captured, Paul. Is it possible that these different colored/textured feathers could be the sign of a juvenile bird?

Very nice shot, Mike -- the contrast of the blue to green -- makes the photo for me.

Thank you very much, Rich. Your thoughtful compliment is greatly appreciated.

Nice capture of the friendly Scrub Jay Mike.
Those birds have the most interesting personality.
Happy trails.

Many thanks Paul. Both juvenile mockingbirds and scrub-jays have an incredible time chasing each other all around the neighborhood. It appears to be quite friendly yet very intense. It is so much fun watching these young jays and mockers engage in these chase games. I believe this is one of the ways that they improve their flying skills.

Nice one. The background really brings out the bird's colors. It's tough to get one with that much open space behind it.

I really appreciate your thoughtful compliment, Ken. I took a number of shots of him, and this particular image had the background I was after. You're right about trying to get one with open space behind it.

Really nice, Mike! That blue color just holds one's gaze.

Many thanks, Steve. He hung around for quite some time, and I just kept firing away. When it was all said and done, this is the only image I ended up keeping. It certainly doesn't speak highly for my camera skills. But I am happy to have this one keeper.:-)

Mike that's really nicely captured.
Beautiful composition, pose and feather details, against that lovely background.
I'd suggest that's a stellar shot.

I inquired at the Audubon center.
That Parakeet appears to be an adult morph.

A morph, or color phase, happens when birds of the same species regularly develop more than one plumage color.
The morph plumage can be any color.
