Male Rainbird, aka Eastern Koel (external link), in my front yard early this morning; letting the neighbourhood know it's going to rain soon.

Koels arrive in northern Australia from New Guinea and eastern Indonesia in September, as the humidity rises just before the start of our wet season. Their strident, clear, ascending calls often precede rain and are frequently heard, though the birds themselves are usually high in trees and hidden by foliage. They breed here and, like other cuckoos, lay eggs in the nests of other birds. The newly hatched chick turfs out the other nestlings and constantly begs for food, keeping its smaller foster parents very busy. They return north in April as the wet season winds down.

Great capture, Pippan! I think this is also one of the few birds where the female is actually much more interesting looking :-)

Yes, true. I was just happy to see one reasonably clearly, although getting a shot with all those sticks was a challenge. You hear them so often but so rarely see them.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Brown Thornbill - Acanthiza pusilla
I've posted these before. Cute little birds, tiny actually. I think they have or are nesting as I saw them a while back being quite frisky :-)

Yellow-rumped Mannikin at Lee Point Dam - after a quite birding morning around the dam, suddenly one lonely yellow-rumpled mannikin posing in front of me :-)

That's beautiful Ulrike. Lovely composition, right down to that wisp of grass curling up over its head.

Odd, but I had a mental picture of birds like this and similar being abundant.
Just wander off into the sticks, wait about and they appear from nowhere!

Today we were treated to some spectacular bird behaviour
A Forest Raven flapped and banged against the windows all morning to be replaced in late afternoon by these beauties.
There was a pair of them and at one time I think they exhausted themselves and one lay prostrate on the window ledge with its mouth wide open.
I have never seen these birds give attention to the window like these. Actually the first time we've had them at the house and they are quite rare here.

These are taken looking through double glazed windows that were filthy from the morning raven encounter but I was very happy.
I've loaned a camera to go to South Pole and this is an old camera, my first mirrorless. Forgot it was on jpeg so even more pleased with results

The wrens and wallabies played second fiddle today :-)

Interesting eyes on this bird, Richard. Our Jackdaws have the same eyes, but not our ravens or crows.

Thanks, Richard! Yes, you never know what will appear. Part of all the fun when going birding :-)
