Hope you all had a great Halloween with lots of ghosts and goblins come knocking.

The images:

OldCrow (Spiders) – Nice. My oldest daughter would find this the most frightening of the set. Will remember to bring heavy-duty bug spray when I visit North Carolina.

LtDave (los Muertos) – A colourful display; fits in nicely with H’ween. Did some reading up on the festival. Fascinating traditions, and very “lively” for a day of the Dead

dilorenzo1954 (Headstone) – Interesting selection. Would love to know the tragic backstory. I’ve seen this custom of leaving mementos/relics on graves or the location of an accident from the high Arctic to the Equator, but this is probably the oldest where people are still leaving offerings, nearly 150 years post-demise.

Rainyday (Pumpkin) – Simple and effective. Very nicely done.

TerryPink (Skeleton) – Great effect. Like that its slightly transparent, too. That has to be the most realistic skeleton I’ve seen this year, right town to the tips of his (or her?) phalanges.

Winning photo this week:

Rainyday's pumpkin. As noted, very effective comp and tones.

Runner up is dilorenzo’s headstone.

Thanks folks; good treats all.

Rainyday/Leigh, lead us to the next challenge please.

Congratulations Rainyday, thanks for for second Rob!
Here is a little history on the tombstone (there's actually an encased statue on top of the gravestone as well...

Thanks for the link with the story and photos of her statue. Lot of child and infant graves from that period - and for decades later - from typhoid, as well as scarlet fever and diphtheria. Lots of obstacles to adulthood, and still not the best chances after that for many.

It's been 24 hours since posting the winner but it seems that Rainydays is not available to put up a new challenge (also sent a PM yesterday). Ed, as runner-up, would you lead us on to the next?

Sorry to miss you this time, Leigh, but glad to have you in the game again.
