Nice one Tom.

I assume you mean a gull strutting' on the Pacific shore. I think this is a Western Gull, or possibly a Herring Gull - I'm never very confident with first-year gulls. Some of thugs from down under have posted pics of Pacific Gulls and they are totally different beasts.

Hey we're not all thugs down under!:-P In fact our Pacific Gulls are endemic to southern Australia but ironically are rarely seen on our Pacific (east) coast, being more common on the coasts of the Southern and Indian Oceans.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Oh wow...what a unique capture, Paul! Simply outstanding!

Both of these close-up portrait shots are tack sharp, Dennis! Very nicely photographed!

Awesome close-up capture of this Nankeen Night-heron, Pippan! Sharp as a razor.

Outstanding capture, Vassilis! This is so lifelike appearing.

What a crack'in shot of the drake mallard, fotoi! He's definitely a talker.;-)a

Two super nice shots, Kirk! If I had to bet, I'd put my money on the black vulture surviving.

Thank you for the most kindly compliment Mike.

Amazing how good this looks on your flickr account compared to what shows on the forum. Which size link do you use for the forum? Perhaps try bigger/better quality and see if it improves?

thanks, Dave
hmmmm, I typically just chose the large 1024 X 683 as I believed this was the limit
Next size up is 2048 X 1366 which forum says if too large
Thanks for checking the Flickr site in any case...Cheers!

you're allowed 1600 here, most people save their images that size to fill the screen. that's what we're here for, to get the most visual effect we can.

I think that limit is if the forum hosts your photo. If you link from Flickr account, I don't believe there is a limit.

From the "rules" on this site....

Image Size Limits:

Image must fit in a 1600 pixels by 1600 pixels box.
If you want to share a larger photo, please link to it. See https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=157706
for tips.

Not sure how the link to it works as the included link didn't work for me
I just uploaded a 1600 version here...
hope it's better

Thanks Mike and Ken... With regard to the type of gull it is, I will defer to you Ken on its ID. It was indeed photographed on the Pacific Coast of California, and my gull identification skills are somewhere near zero. :-D
