Yep, that’s it, that’s one of my most favorite airplanes of all time.
The nose landing gear on the B-58 is one of the most if not the most complicated gear ever to be put on an aircraft due to the extremely large centerline tank and the height of the gear.

Just like the Avro Arrow, that plane was way ahead of its time.

Nose gear of the same B-58.

Pre-flight must be interesting. You need a lift of some sort to remove those pitot tube covers

When I first read what you wrote, I thought what in the world is a pilot tube cover and what does a pilot cover do? I went to youtube and typed in what is a pilot cover? Even with the response I got I was still reading pilot, I did not read pitot which is what youtube came back with!!

It was not until I saw a picture of something hanging below the plane, THEN I saw pitot!

I now know the pitot shows the air speed!!

I read 'pilot' as well!

The "t" doesn't stand out sometimes.
Charles- yes, the pitot tube measures airspeed. There appears to be two of them there. There is an angle-of-attack vane above them, just below one of the passenger windows. There are two other items flagged- I don't know their function. One is below the pitot tubes, and the other ahead of the wing root.

Those others appear to be the Static ports.
The Pitot measures the airspeed and the Static measures the altitude.
It’s been over ten years since I’ve worked on a 747 but I’m pretty sure that’s what those are in the picture, they’re in the area I would expect them to be.

Edit: Another item that just came to mind that the front ones could be is the TAT (Total Air Temp) Probes. The ones just forward of the wing root I’m pretty sure are the Static Ports.

That makes sense. We don't cover the static ports on the planes I fly (unless a flight instructor is evaluating how well a student does a pre-flight, or trying to keep stuff from getting inside while washing the plane.)

I think we were trying to keep things simple, but I'll note the static port is also used by the airspeed indicator too, as well as the vertical speed indicator. Their placement is very important.
