Dennis, your backyard birdbath serves as a great setting for these beautiful Scaly-breasted Lorikeets. There is definitely plenty of gorgeous color in these two images!

Wonderful capture of a very soggy Lorikeet Dennis.

Thank you Paul and Mike, I appreciate your comments.:-)

It is quite comical watching them take off from the bird bath, their feathers laden with water. They struggle to gain altitude and seem to only just avoid crash landing on the ground.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

Thank you sogs, it was a dull, overcast morning but their bright colours still sparkled.:-)

Cheers

Interesting shots. Were they finding dead fish or actually catching them. They're primarily vegetarian, but will take small prey such as insects or tadpoles, and sometimes carrion. I've seen them with small crawfish, but never never with anything larger.

Hi Ken, were these fish alive or dead? Who knows? According to Wikipedia "Coots are omnivorous, eating mainly plant material, but also small animals, fish and eggs."

What I've seen and captured are coots taking whole fish apart and dragging them into their dens. I've also seen them, and other waterfowl ignore dead fish, or fishermen's bait, floating on the surface. Are they scavengers or hunters? Like all birds, maybe a bit of both.

PS: My domestic hens love birdseed, veggies and fruits, but I've seen them swallow large, live lizards whole as well! :-D

Very impressive capture, Charles! The Black-collared barbet is a gorgeous bird.

Thank you, Mike

What a beauty this one is, Dave!

Lovely capture of this pair of wigeon, fotoi! I really like the low camera angle.

Stunning capture of this beautiful Hooded Merganser, Ed! If I had taken this photo, it would have been hung on the wall.

Both the Goldcrest and the drake pheasant are terrific captures, John! Very nice work.

Wow...is this ever a great shot of the two Wattled Cranes, Steve! You nailed the sharpness of these two beauties, and I really like how they are positioned.
