Steve these are indeed beautiful birds and very nicely composed
Incredible details and colours
They're tall birds and I read long lived, 20-30 years.

Seeing Cog's Pipit above reminded me how similar they are to ours.
Australasian Pipit
The Australasian Pipit is found across Australia. It is also found in New Guinea, New Zealand, as well as being widespread across Africa and Asia.

This is really a lovely capture, Richard! I like the rusty ol' metal fence post perch, and the the pipit is beautifully separated from the blurred background...giving the photograph a nice 3D appearance.

Thank you Mike, yesterday was very unusual indeed as I capped two different sets of coots that caught or processed 2 different fish. Two more shots below illustrate the "frenzy" behavior the coots were exhibiting.

Image #1, 11:26 AM, shows a coot pounding a beheaded fish to pieces. His 2 buddies joined in and took cuts for themselves.

Image #2, 11:31 AM shows another coot pushing its prize (with head intact) to its den. The fish appeared to still be alive!
