This male Superb Fairy-wren was hopping around on the grass near the car park in the Lamington National Park. He was used to visitors but he just would not keep still and pose for me, he made me work quite hard to grab a few shots.

I got a ladder and put it back in its nest so its mother could come for it. Later the nest was empty and the baby nowhere to be seen. I hope it survived.

They certainly aren't the prettiest of baby birds but then few are.

Dennis from what I've seen you seem to be mastering the wren captures, and very nice they are.

On a more serious side of that, I wonder if our Wrens are a bit more placid, laid back in Tasmania? Even out in the scrub they seem to be fairly quiet - as in that one I posted previously.
But it does help here at our place as they know my ways and my presence and it's seldom a bother for them.
It's often quite comical when I round a corner and come face to face with one and there's a brief staring at each other then movement from the wren. Males more so than females.

Sadly Richard, I have seen young children chasing the wild birds in the Lamington National Park, whilst parents gaze on thinking it harmless fun....so some of the wildlife can be quite wary of the unpredictable behaviour of humans.

Interestingly enough, some of the wildlife seem to be able to tell the difference between the little people that want to chase them and the slower moving adults who are just passing by.

This is what all the weekends efforts culminated in.

Little tacker finally showed itself whilst mum and dad flew in and out but I never saw any food.
However there was some behind the scene activities when they flew in from behind the scrub so probably missed it.

yes that baby tail is quite something, especially when they cock it up vertically.
No doubt there will be more encounters.
I am not sure if this is the only one in the family.

these are currently frequenting our yard with at least 4 if not 6 flitting about.
They scare the daylights out of smaller birds but mean no harm, just like playing chasings from what I've observed.
Could be boy girl thing too?

Yellow Wattlebird Anthochaera paradoxa
The Yellow Wattlebird occurs only in Tasmania and is Australia’s largest honeyeater.
This one has been feeding on the magenta grevillea by the looks of its beak

Great capture. I like this image because of it shows the red tail, and it probably isn't easy to get such an image.
