Ok, I just did that. How will that help me?

Do you know how I can find my two files I saved but can not find?

What about the landmarks I can not see from my yard??

Google Earth location files have file extensions of .kml or .kmz

MyPlaces has .kml

So Search PC for *.kml (* is Wildcard, so any file with .kml file extension will be found)

Grid turned on, Google Earth. This is in Indianapolis. Well, it's North East of Indianaoplis CBD.
True North just so happens to very close to perfectly aligned to Ruckle st.
For many backyards seen here, the back of the house or the back fence could be used as a reference.
So you don't even need a landmark. Two reference points in your backyard.
One of them can be a mark on your fence. That leaves one other point required.
Once done, go to that point and point towards the mark on the fence.

Now go to the north pole. All the long lines converge.

It's default is your home directory (usually c:users/"username") under appdata > LocalLow > Google >GoogleEarth. There is a file called "myplaces.kml". It contains all of your work. But why?

How about using something more local like your neighbors house. (roofline, fence post or some other landmark)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

A bit late to this, but I use an Ipolar to do the polar alignment on either my star tracker mount or my EQ6R mount.
On the star tracker it close enough as I use wide angle lenses mostly on that. On the EQ6R I guide as well so the alginment doesn't have to be totally accurate.

I used the ipolar as the stars in the southern hemisphere used for aligning can be quite faint.

There’s always old school. The latitude at a location will indicate the vertical, a compass with the proper declination the horizontal.

Entered this thread as I’m looking for options that might swing my 90d and 500mm f4 for some Astro imaging.

I'm not sure if it would work with the Sky Tracker but there are several electronic polar alignment options on the market such as the QHY Po9leMaster, iOptron's iPolar, and also you can use the Pro version of SharpCap to do an electronic polar alignment. You may want to go that route if seeing Polaris in the polar scope is not possible for you. NINA has a 3-star Polar alignment routine but I don't think that will work with the Sky Tracker as it's probably not a goto type mount.
