i really like the 600mm, as I had said I tried them both side by side on my R7 and the 600 was it for me. It doesn't matter the reach if you can't get it in the FOV. Love the lightweight and it is plenty sharp.

It is actually making me think of a second R7 body to hold my RF100-400, again lightweight. Right now I am using my 90D with either my 100-400L II or my 70-300 so when birds suddenly appear closer or fly in close in a group I reach down next to my chair and grab the 90D to get the close in shots. But the gear becomes a bit heavy. Will look into some sort of luggage carrier to carry my large camera case and folding chair etc.

I think the RF600 is sharper than my Sigma 150-600C at 600mm

The Sigma is wide open? That would be expected, as the 150-600 zooms generally have enough aberration at 600/6.3 that they are sharpest at f/8 or f/9. The difference is probably smaller at f/11, where a good portion of the Sigma's aberration is not in the light path.

I'm enjoying using this lens - a lot!
Nicely balanced on the R5 and the weight reduction is appreciated.

The IS is super, the AF speed is OK, the tripod mount location is odd (too far forward when the lens is extended - I wish is just wasn't there). The resolving power of this little dude is amazing.

Nice capture. This is one of my favorite local birds to photograph, but one of the most difficult ones for me to find, usually, in a good photographic view. Most of the time they are behind pine needles eating seeds out the pine cones.

Some species are definitely very difficult to photograph. My nemeses are the wrens, kingfishers, creepers, and thrashers.

My favorites are the wood warblers which are typically extremely difficult to photograph for their size and activity level. Fortunately I live only 2 hours away from what many consider to be the "Warbler Capital of the World". But that season lasts only a few weeks and tends to be extremely busy with people from all over the US and beyond.

After a good conversation on the RF800 I took my RF600 out to the local pond for a half hour. I had used my 150-600C at another pond this morning, to me the RF600 is sharper at 600mm than the Sigma.
I did some goose portraits and then was watching a pair of Merganzers when they took off so I was able to track them easily. They got so close that I could only get a couple shots that had them both in the FOV. the 800 would not have gotten even these two aerials.. The seagull once I found him in the EVF I was able to track. I think I am going to stick with the RF600 afterall.
