Hi InPho - I certainly remember the port at at Pegwell Bay and it was demolished years ago.
The services from Ramsgate were discontinued in 1982 and transferred to Dover. The hoverport was used a base for repairs for a couple of years and then allowed to fall into disrepair.
It was demolished in 1987. I pass it a few times a year now and the site is going back to nature. The genuine/repro Viking boat is still there as an attraction after many years - maybe you will remember it? If I can find the negative/slide I will post it.
I am not currently aware of a public Hover service being offered from the Kent ports - This was confirmed by one of the ferry operators this morning.
Regards
I remember the boat, it was impressive, big with 4 airplane propellers on top. Sitting deflated on the hoverport's pavement loading cars, trucks and busses, many passengers too. Then it was inflated and elevated, moving from land into the sea, just 35 minutes to get to France.
It was the pride of British craftmanship. Now I see some times the military Zubr class Russian hovercraft.
