Black swans! Beautiful birds. Are they common in Australia, Richard?

Happy New Year to you and everybody in this wonderful thread!

Thanks Levina, Happy New Year to you :-)
Yes they're common, too common at times and upset farmers.
Their only threat (apart from farmers) once grown are powerlines across paddocks
Black Swan can breed quite prolifically
They're protected but can be culled here (Tasmania) with a permit.

They're native to Australia, and Western Australia state emblem and feature on their flag and coat of arms.

Here's a surprise. The Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh noted black swans living in the estuary of the Swan River in January 1697

our juvenile Grey Fantail ~ Rhipidura albiscapa is highly entertaining and flits about doing loop the loops right in front of me
It does stay still for a moment then off again
Such fun to watch
These are early morning with nice light

A lot of rain currently around Darwin, and not many opportunities to go birding. That makes it more special when you finally capture something you have been looking for for some time. Little Kingfisher at Casuarina Coastal Reserve :-)

this is more to ask whether this Australasian Pipit is a juvenile or adult? (First photo)
I've never seen one with its tail up in the air. Not suggesting that defines a juvenile, just a comment
A late evening capture
