I recently saw a tweet about the San Francisco 49ers vs New York Giants playoff game that was played 20 years ago on Jan. 5th, 2003 at Candlestick park.
Watching the video, I remembered I was at the game. So I went through my files to find some photos.
Back in the day, the top of the line Canon camera was the EOS-1D which had only been out for two years.
With digital still being new, things were not quite the same as they are today. No RAW files, you got a TIFF or JPG.
Max file size, 2464 x 1648. ISO range 200 to 1600, and you didn't really dare go past ISO 1250. You got 45 auto focus points.
Grain, yes there was plenty of grain, and NO MAGIC software that got rid of it.
The image below was made at ISO 800 on a 400mm lens at f3.2 & 1/640 of a second. No grain removal was done in post.
I used several of the photos in this post about the game and where the players are now.
I also updated this post with several extra photos with info about their careers.
Turns out the punter, who was the FG holder played just the one season. His career in the NFL ended with an incomplete pass.
