Yosemite Conservancy webcam: Half Dome (external link). You can often see alpenglow if you come at the right time. Today is the wrong time. The whole dome is obscured by weather.

Those are lights in buildings, probably employee housing, behind trees. Local time now is 6:11 P.M. Try again in 15 hours or later.

Were these pictures taken in your state, North Carolina??

Beautiful pictures!

Beautiful pictures, yes. But not in NC. These are from Yosemite, as mentioned at the top of the post.

Is it the half-dome or el Capitan?

Thank you Rhody!!

Woops, I missed that you wrote Yosemite on your post....sigh....

Alpenglow occurs near sunset. It might be considered an aspect of golden hour. The camera points approximately east toward Half Dome and can catch the pinkish color on HD's face if weather permits it to develop. Here's a photo from November 2013 (with seasonally low sun), taken from farther west.

BTW, Charles, if you get a chance, watch the documentary, "Free Solo". It is about a rock climber whose lifelong dream is to scale El Capitan without any ropes or harnesses. Talk about being unhinged. lol!

At ** years you can still watch documentaries without hurting yourself.

The Half Dome webcam this morning shows snow on HD and in Ahwahnee Meadow, which is most of the foreground. Don't worry, you can view it without feeling cold.

National park de hoge Veluwe in the Netherlands. This castle was in use for hunting parties. In the pond are many carps they eat from your hands.

If my memory is correct, the guy who filmed the climb said it was so stressful watching him climb it unroped that he would never film something like that again.
