To truly understand this try reading up on the British Canal system , but in short, Narrowboats were formerly small cargo carriers towed along a path next to a canal by Horse from the early days of Canal Navigation.

In the industrial age, small engines powered these boats. As the need for moving freight on canals was superceded by Train and Lorry, these boats, and the one depicted in my photograph was a small one by comparison, found a new use by covering the cargo hold and making them into Houseboats.

Today, it is a leisure industry whereby you can tour the British Canal network north to south, East to west at a gentle speed and really take in the great countryside and countless cities and principal towns, Hope that answers your question and thanks for the interest

As you quote “A photograph is nothing without a story” Very true, it is nice to see a few descriptive comments, or maybe a reminiscence or an interesting link - and of course a location.
