In case anyone is interested, I think (know) it is north of Bern

Thanks Ed!

Because next week is Hell on wheels and then I am away from civilization for three weeks ;-)a

But for a quickie, I will hazard a guess at Flawil, St Lawrence church or whatever linguistic or spelling variation of that you prefer.

Good golly, you are good. Flawil would have been good enough but this was from my grandparents house just up the hill from the church. As always, would love to know how you figured it out.

Hi Anton. No magic. I vaguely remembered seeing it and knew it was St Gallen. I think I changed from train to bus here on a trip to The Chocolarium. A quick Google for The Chocolarium found it.

Wow, the Chocolarium; that's an interesting connection to the solution of the WAIN. Bruno Munz's brother (their father started Munz) was a classmate of my dad's, and Bruno's daughter lives here in Virginia and remains very good friends with my sister. I have pics of my kids at the Chocolarium.

I was figuring someone would realize that the spot was on the north edge of the mountains, and the mountains in the background (a stand-alone cluster with a very well-known peak) was the Alpstein. In Google maps it just jumps out at you. Also that view of the Säntis is very characteristic; maybe not quite like the Matterhorn :) but it's still a known profile. From there the rest would have been obvious.

It was always so nice to look out at the Säntis from my grandparents' house (the photo was probably taken from an upstairs balcony). My grandmother would always mention in letters if the Säntis could be seen clearly on a given day.

WAIN. Henk used to have a series going with statues, so let's go back to that :-) Maybe less contentious!

Japan?

It certainly is. All that is now needed is to identify the statue

Do you want to be a bit more precise ... i.e. where in Osaka? And that is very impressive, by the way.
