Working in my study on a beautiful fall day, I grabbed the first camera to hand and had a shot at my miniature Pohutukawa tree, through the slightly grubby double-glazed window.

First, as shot

This Bald Cypress tree has fascinated me for ten years now. I have to wonder why it is so different from the surrounding trees.

This was shot with a Canon Rebel XT from a canoe at Caddo Lake in 2012.

An old classic. I took these in 2018, before selling my 35mm f2 lens.

I was visiting a new place and wasn't sure how close I could get to the deer, so being lazy I took my cheap old 70-300mm Canon lens with me instead of my Canon 100-400 mark ii thinking that I would just take some wider shots with my 24mm 2.8 lens and put the 70-300 mm in my rucksack. After spending a couple of hours in semi dark thick mist I was just leaving the area having got no decent shots. I looked to my left and standing about 80 feet away from me was a large handsome stag, who very kindly stood calmly as I took my rucksack off, put on my 70-300 mm lens and pointed it in his direction. He then did a few poses for me. I could have wept at not having my better lens with me, especially as I haven't managed to get so close to one since.

I go out on morning walks for the exercise and to enjoy the long-awaited spring and to add some interest I take different camera gear with me. This time it was one of my favourite kit lenses - EF-S 18-135 IS STM.

SHOOTING WITH LEGACY GEAR

In the process of downsizing my menagerie, I decided to test some of the gear with a challenge - shooting inside the pecincts of the local museum which, like many such, is quite dimly lit.
In these images, I was shooting long to capture some of the visitors. The EF 70-300 might not have been that cheap in 2005 but it sure is now...

This image was taken in extremely dim light, in order to protect the priceless Maori Whare (pronouces faray) or building.

Great to see you using vintage DSLR gear
