Well, it's not really decapitated. More like de-footed. The flash was attached to a 5D that slid sideways and dropped about six inches. Not a long distance, but enough to rip the foot off of the main body of the flash. It also ripped 3 wires (green, orange, yellow) from their posts. I replaced this old workhorse with a new 430EX III-RT, but I'd like to do a repair on the old flash to keep as a spare or perhaps a slave.

Does anyone have a schematic or a picture that tells me which wire goes to which post? My plan is to solder the wires back in place and then simply superglue the base of the foot back onto the body, unless, of course, someone has a better low-cost suggestion.

thanks!

not mine, but there's a couple of shots on this blog that should help: http://blog.prairierimimages.com …ation-on-canon-430ex.html (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Many years ago a friend and I tried to repair a 580. It was in worse shape than yours, but we were broke college kids with alcohol and high ambitions running through our veins. Technically, we were able to bring it into working order, and actually captured an image with the first strobe after repair. Unfortunately, I was soon holding a DSLR with a fireball mounted to the hotshoe. We had done something terribly wrong.

I won't offer advice other than to not underestimate 4AA batteries and a capacitor :-P

No doubt. Tapping a capacitor could run your day if you have a bad heart or a pacemaker. Fortunately, the wiring that I need to do is only to the three wires in the picture that have been ripped from their posts. The other end of the wires is attached to a harness that plugs into the receiver in the flash head so the risk is minimal. Probably more dangerous will be the SuperGlue that I plan on using.
