The Australian Logrunner is a small, robust, ground-dwelling bird, with a short and sturdy bill. The short wings are rounded. They forage on the forest floor scratching with their large, strong feet through the leaf litter.

Adult Male birds have a grey face and sides, and are white underneath, with the Females having an orange-rufous throat.

This Male posed nicely for me, out in the open, perched on top of a fallen branch. Usually, they are obscured by foliage and fallen branches as they scratch for food on the forest floor, using their broad tail as a prop with its obvious spines at the end.

The Eastern Yellow Robin is in a typical pose, perched on the side of a tree on the look out for insects. They are quite friendly and inquisitive birds and will often flutter down to take a look at you.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

This is really a nice capture, Steve! The snow gives it quite an added punch.

Truly a lovely capture of the Hawfinch, Gerd! The lighting is excellent.

1. A limpkin in the fg with a tricolored heron in the bg. Unintentional but the pic was tilted and when I leveled it in post it made the frame super tight.
2. Not 100% on the ID but I'm pretty sure it's a juvenile godwit with its white eyebrow and plain tummy.

Thanks Mike, it sure helps when you have F2.8 and the low light capability of the R5 available in the darkness of the rainforest, not to mention eye AF.:-)

Cheers

Upclose American White Pelican - I didn't realize exactly how big they are until I got upclose to this one.

Trivia - It should be noted that pelicans have very little biting power; the beak is designed to scoop, not bite. At worst, you may receive a scratch on the hand. - I'm not interested in testing this........

The beak—the bill—of a pelican is the longest of any bird. Specifically, the Australian Pelican is the world record holder. The male of this species has a bill up to almost 20 inches long, about 50 cm. No bird bill is longer.
