I have 1,000 but they are just phone snaps.

32 years. First 12 years with Hampshire Fire Brigade then with the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service in the UK. Retired 11 years ago aged 50. Not missing it too much. A part time flying instructor now.

My brother and my Dad were both volunteer firemen on Long Island. I would've done it, as well, but went into the military out of high school...

What made you change Brigades?

I was offered a promotion and it was closer to where I lived!

Hello,

I'm technically a Reserve Firefighter, but only for the purposes of being able to photograph Firefighters doing what they do. I did this from 2001 to 2008 and started up again in 2020 after a 12-year hiatus. My "focus" now is not so much on the incidents as much as it is the Firefighters. I'm including a few images here. Please be gentle when you let me know what you think.

I like both photos but the first one really stands out. I like the way the turn of his head to the far right brings his helmet shield into full view, and shows his face.

What stands out in the second photo is the condition of his helmet. That is more impactfull than seeing his face.

Please keep the photos coming.

I was a volunteer firefighter, EMT and ERT in northern Illinois for about 10 years in the 1980's. I volunteered for a rural all volunteer department and then a paid/volunteer rural department in a bit larger city. I also volunteered on two different city ambulance services. When we move to the Chicago suburbs it was not possible for me to get away from work so easily so I left the fire service.

I worked at newspapers back then and always had a film camera, loaded with Tri-X film, stowed away in the lead engine so when possible I would photograph the operations for both the department and for the newspapers.

It was a great experience with a bunch of great guys. I remember going to the fire house with the paid guys and sitting around playing Pong and a couple of other games on the new Atari game machines. We also had a "water fight" team and competed with other area departments at summer festivals. Such great memories.

Have you digitized those old Tri-X prints?

I have spent some time fighting fire, primarily wildland type. Primarily worked as a Saw Boss and Tractor Boss and when needed as a GSUL on Type 1 or 2 IC teams.
Yellowstone, in 88, was pure semi-controlled chaos, but very memorable. Was a volunteer on the local Rural Fire Dept. primarily engaged in extinguishing agricultural type fires. Many combine and swather fires as well as haystack fires, grain field fires, and hay field fires. Was very rewarding in that most of the people in the community were friends or neighbors.

Here are two more recent pictures that I took.
The first one was on the freeway and I managed to arrive before the engine. Everyone was out of the vehicle and there were no injuries. This image was just before water hit the fire.

The second image is of a Probationary Firefighter at her second fire that night.

Unless it is something minor like a pot on the stove, multiple fires during the same shift is exhausting.
