Hi Ken...

I've never seen a Cedar Waxwing in person, but I've seen many photographs of them. In most of those photos, the bird's feathers tend to be a smooth rendering with little actual detail. Yours on the other hand, is incredibly detailed in the feathers and colors.

Really beautiful work.

Thank you very much Tom. Waxwings have very fine feathering with mostly uniform coloring. This is the most detail I've ever captured with one. I managed to get close and I think the air was especially clear. Calm, sunny morning after lows around zero (F) and fresh snow on the ground.

Lovely shots, Ken.

Thanks Levina. These were bookends to a nice hour on a beautiful morning. Then a Cooper's hawk landed in a neighbor's tree and my feet were getting cold, so I decided I'd had enough fun.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Wow, absolutely has a 3D-feel to it, as if it is coming out of the screen.

Beautifully done!

Thanks! This one was taken from about 10 feet. Getting close always helps, but the birds don't always understand:lol:
