I have the EF mount Rokinon 14mm that I use with the EF- RS adapter. I am thinking of shifting to Canon RF 16mm. While I will sacrifice 2mm, I want to shift for two key reasons:
1. Generally moving to RF mount lens from EF
2. Save some space and weight in my camera bag

Am not too fussed about the fact that the 16mm has autofocus, as it is not too difficult to use manual focus on R5. My question is, would I be sacrificing IQ by shifting to the 16mm?

Thanks.

I have both the 14mm ef samyang and the 16 rf
The rf is so much lighter that it is always with me while the 14mm is much bigger
The IQ of the 16 is good but it has huge barrel distortion that forces you to use the correction
I actually want to sell my 14mm that was bought before the 16 was released

How difficult is it to correct the barrel distortion? If we are able to correct the distortions in Rokinon 14mm, can we do the same for Canon. I assume there are lens profile available in Lightroom etc.

I noticed Amazon has it for the same price as well. Even though I have the 16-35f4, this is very tempting.

The 14mm distortion is way less than the rf 16
The correction does work with lightroom but it is not perfect
If you do landscape it will be ok
For architecture not so much

Looking at mixed use really, so there would be a fair bit of Architecture as well. Let me see if I can get some sample images online.

I have the Rokinon 14mm F2.8 AF for the RF mount.

Since Canon pulled the license (or whatever happened) and the Rokinon for the RF mount has been discontinued, does that make mine more, same or less valuable?

I'm surprised to read it's beating out the Canon 16mm RF. I can live with the corrected barrel distortion with the Canon for my purposes so I was thinking of bundling it with my R or just selling it outright and grabbing the Canon.

I have no idea why Canon came with UWA @16mm. Which is not very common, practical focal length.

Meanwhile Canon has no 28mm prime in production in EF and RF. Which is very common FOV.

They should have release 40 RF pancake instead, which is another high demanded focal length.

I’m a little late in this, but I just wanted to second all this. Yes, it’s a disgrace that there isn’t a good 28 from Canon.
I’m thinking of getting this 16, if only because my Zeiss 15 is v heavy and big for travel. I had all the 16-35 2.8 options, but I prefer primes.
Edit: just ordered it.

Canon came with plastic 24 1.8, same archaic STM, questionable IS for this focal length and IBIS in most current Canon R bodies.
Canon wants 600 USD for it. While Virox has 24 1.8 metal body lens for 380 USD.
