What a Nightmare this would be to know what dial to turn and when the heck do I turn what handle??!!??!!

Was this inside the cab?? My God!!

HIGHLY simplified....

most wouldnt be touched other than during start up or shut down. the two angled valve cocks on the right by the tag "throttle" would only be turned if changing out the gauge (as far as i can tell from the picture. i need better angles/better glasses/more zoom)

once running and moving, the engineer on the right, only has a couple of controls, the Throttle, the brakes and the reverser

the fireman on the left, only has to make sure the boiler is full of water, the pre-heater is working, the stoker is moving coal into the firebox and regulating the air so that theres a complete burn for the most power...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

Still a few Autumn colours around as another steam excursion heads for the Yorvik Xmas Market, this time it's ex GWR No.7029 "Clun Castle" on a cold misty morning.

I got a chance to get a shot of a restored 4.8 8.4 they call THE Beast and it was one big machine. Still running...Union Pacific 4014. Shook the ground like an earthquake when it went by.
