What on earth happened here? Has this thread been resurrected? Speaking of which, where is Ian when you need him to kill a thread?

Sorry, forgot my update. It's summer here but feels like a Melbourne winter. :-|

Hello Subby, I be here! Wish it was summer here.

For dishwasher safe camera body cleaning. Just make sure to top off the jetdry in your dishwasher to prevent water spots. I throw a cup of vinegar in as well. Top rack heat dry. Comes out squeaky clean. For lenses, make sure the caps are off, can't believe some folks forget.

The 5DIII not so much. Guess it's dishwasher time.

Three bodies, three clean sensors. Last time I checked, my 1DIV was approaching 120,000 clicks (pretty low for that body and age) and my 5D3 was close to 250,000. I think either 200 or 250k is the life span of the shutterbox. Do I worry or run it until it fails? Has anyone had a shutterbox replaced? Last I checked, which was a couple years ago, it was 250 to 300 to send it to Canon for replacement. Just guardedly curious.

I suspect that prices have gone up quite a bit For the 5DIII, They seem to be running $600 to $700 these days and 1 DIV just a tad less. I say just keep shooting until it fails. Your only at the 50% MTBF so you might get lucky and get anothe 100k per camera... or it could fail tomorrow. Who's to know. :)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I was thinking the prices must have gone up since I last checked. I'll shoot till it fails. Probably find another 5D3 in good shape for less than the shutter box fix.

I believe the 1DIV is rated for 400k or it could die tomorrow. Either way I've had them long enough to know thier quirks. Better to use what I have and know. :-)

The shutter ratings are mean time before failure. So the 400k number just means that 1/2 of all qDIV will have failed before 400k and the other 1/2 will fail after 400k. There use to be a Canon white paper on one of the cameras that described it pretty well and was debated here at POTN many years ago, but I can't find the paper or thread any longer.

I killed my own thread with an online AI. Crap, I just broke the online AI! This is not a joke. I did this.
It was a discussion about discussions.
----
AI: Yes, it can be a challenge to strike the right balance between staying focused on the main topic of discussion while also allowing for relevant peripheral information to be introduced. It's true that if too much peripheral information is introduced, the conversation can go off track and important points may be lost. On the other hand, if the conversation is too rigidly focused on the main topic, important perspectives and information may be ignored. It's a delicate balance, but by being mindful of the overall direction and purpose of the discussion, it's possible to keep the conversation on track while still incorporating relevant peripheral information.

Me: A difficult balance to be sure.

AI: Yes, it can be a difficult balance to strike, but it's an important aspect of effective communication and helps ensure that discussions are productive and achieve their intended goals. By being mindful of the main topic and purpose of the discussion, and considering the relevance of peripheral information before introducing it, it's possible to maintain the balance and have productive and focused conversations.

Me: Speaking of which, I've got a joke.
I'm kidding. I am being ironic.

That makes sense. I wondered how they came up with the counts. In reality I suppose they can fail at anytime, from our of the box to 400k +. I won't worry about it. Thanks again :-)

It's an apparent short coming but is to be expected; Programmers, you know.

Again, I'm kidding, programmers!

Because Chet is a winner, and winners get deals wherever they go. Or it could be from points accumulated purchasing greasy Pizza Hut pizza for the children.
