After a good conversation here on the RF800 I took my RF600 out to the local pond for a half hour. I had used my 150-600C at another pond this morning, to me the RF600 is sharper at 600mm than the Sigma.
I did some goose portraits and then was watching a pair of Merganzers when they took off so I was able to track them easily. They got so close that I could only get a couple shots that had them both in the FOV. the 800 would not have gotten even these two aerials.. The seagull once I found him in the EVF I was able to track. I think I am going to stick with the RF600 afterall.

Shelducks. I had written this off as unsuitable - The ducks looked too distant and a heavy crop was needed for a close picture. However; I was quite surprised at how this shot cropped - Posted just as a demo of R7 + RF100-500L.
Very little editing applied. Original image RAW CR3

Full image as captured.

Not usable but the AF is pretty amazing. No matter what it found the birds. I've got lots that are too far away but it was good practise. I rarely had to us the pre-focus method. Some say AF is close to the R3. It just may be.

Wanted to go out this morning, it was clear and sunny by the time I got to the pond clouds covered the sky, had my RF600 on the R7 so had to shoot at insane ISO levels. This was the best I could do.

I normally wouldn't post these but I am renting the RF800 again as well as a 1.4x extender so wanted to try my RF600 before the rental gear showed up. The light was horrible. ISO 20,000 ouch. the geese were at ISO 2500 but 1/250th

first duck was leaving some noise second used AI Sharpen in addition to AI Denoise

Happy to see you AF resutls
On your first two photos - with such busy background, my R7 with 100-400 would not focus on the duck - will hunt...

AF continues to impress me. I'd post a lot more shots but I'm concentrating on the Wild Birds of Europe thread since I'm only in Europe for a few months.

With the 1.4 TC which puts this at 1120mm.
