The prime suspect

Our Cooper's hawk is a regular visitor to our little backyard glade. This morning I knew he was in the area by the silence from the song birds that visit the feeders.

Caught looking rather suspicious in the early morning light as if in a police line up. Got a few of him in flight, but even at ISO 400 I couldn't get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action. He's been playing with lots of branches so I have a feeling as long as I cut him some slack, he plans on "sticking" around".

Yes, I bet every little bird was hiding, it's only the unwary that get caught by the Hawk. I wished I had this one as a regular visitor, hopefully to see more shots of this hawk.

Wouldn't mind a raptor or two visiting my bacyard.

About 15 years ago, the Cooper's Hawk was re-established in this area of Minneapolis and has been very successful. Last year we had a mating pair in front of a Catholic church six blocks up the street. While this year I couldn't find them, obviously they found a new place.

I started a set of bird feeders this spring(cheaters always prosper doing bird photography) and I think I've got a good balance going.

There are several acres of cemetery across the road and a couple of lakes just a mile or so away. It amazes me that here on the northern edge of our downtown, we have such wildlife.

Now we work on the action flight shots!

you are lucky to get a hawk in your backyard, I have never got close to a hawk or raptor and would be stoked to see one in my backyard, although I do have rainbow lorikeets in my backyard everyday .
