Catalytic converters theft isn’t that prevalent either, maybe in certain areas but not in my parts.

Car thefts in general is higher than cat theft. In any case EV will have a huge impact long term and change the proverbial landscape. It doesn't take much effort to prove part of this post wrong, either. I don't know about the prevalence of car theft, but I picked a bunch of small cities around the midwest and they all have cat convertors stolen. The problem is everywhere. And this problem will be solved by EVs.

Car theft is more prevalent than people coming out to a hacked car. Also 15-18k stolen cats a year according to a year out to go stats just isn’t that big an issue. Maybe 2022 stats are higher but again it is just a tiny percentage of vehicles on the roads. Like about .009% of registered vehicles, so it’s not a huge issue in the US… there are about 40x more vehicles stolen annually. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Since we don't know where "these here parts" is located in the midwest, it's difficult to make an independent judgement. The discussion is about catalytic converter theft, so stolen cars is a non-sequitur.

I also wonder where you get your numbers as State Farm alone has paid claims on more than 23,000 cat converters in the first half of 2022. That is far more than your value, for only half a year, and a only single insurance company. https://newsroom.statefarm.com …atalytic-converter-theft/ Over a year, this comes to 46,000 And there are nearly 1M vehicles stolen and there are over 290M registered vehicles. Yes the numbers are higher than 2021, but still vehicle theft is much higher. I am more worried one of our three vehicles are stolen than my cats being cut out. Perhaps one day we can discuss how much these stats have switched places but not right now. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Electric cars will be stolen in the same proportion. BTW, your numbers are wrong again, with only 800,000 stolen https://www.bankrate.com …car/car-theft-statistics/ We can go search the internet all day, I find one that says 939k you show 800k, yada. You are wrong, I am wrong… When cat theft numbers hit 1% of registered vehicles, then we can talk, right now we are at best .02%. For now 290,000,000 vehicles, let's say 875K (800K from one site, 939K from another, etc) stolen, and state farm reports 43000, lets go up to 60000 to keep you happy, and we have .3% stolen vehicles and .02% in catalytic theft. And California accounts for 1/4 of the State Farm numbers by the way. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery
