Excellent expression! Man I could see a series of shots like this with various subjects, would be great!

Thank you, I'm working on a series of conversational portraits where the subject and I chat and I look for interesting expressions and moments of genuine emotion.
The only easy access to photographic subjects that I have at the moment is with models willing to do TFP shoots to build their portfolio. I hadn't really considered models to be interesting portrait subjects before so I guess this is my way of trying to bring something extra out of the subjects and get some genuine moments. We do some posed shots for their portfolios at the start while I work out the lighting etc and then we move onto the conversational portraits.

I've only had a couple of sessions so far but it's a fun process and you just never know where the conversation will lead and what types of photos will come out of it. Sometimes it's laughter or sadness, and sometimes you just catch someone in a moment of thought or during a moment of calm/rest and I don't think we could pose those expressions again if we tried. So far I've had nothing but genuine and compelling conversations with people and I'm thoroughly enjoying the process.

Thank you, though with that lighting it was tricky when the subject moved, often her eyes and half of her face were completely in shadow. I really like the lighting when the subject is stationary but a a moving target it can be hit and miss, I feel like I might need a broader lighting in the future to make sure I don't obscure the subjects expressions too much, but maybe the shadows are what makes it work?
