Excellent shot, Nigel!

Sad but strange(chaffinches we got lots, regular 10 or more in our city garden). Greenfinches are seen a lot less in our country to, not just our garden.

We have plenty of chaffinch here too, I think only goldfinch and house sparrow are more numerous. Lovely sharp shots, as usual. :)

It was too dark, cold and rainy today to go looking for grebes, weather is looking ok for Tuesday though....

I went looking for kingfishers the other day, didn't see any but got these as a consolation :)

What Patrick said, Sid. What a consolation prize! Pics are really nice. Little balls of fur and you got them frame filling.

A bird’s head on a pillow floating on water! ߘ Nice shot, Levina!İߑ
Just scrolling thru a few pages in this thread-some awfully good shots of birds not really familiar to me. Fun time and definitely educational. Won̢t be making it to Europe (slipped out of my bucket sometime along the way) so this will have to do. Thanks for posting this up!

Thanks Levina, it was in Picos De Europa three years ago whilst I was on holiday. There were a number of nests in trees whilst we were walking and one just flew out so was lucky to capture it.

Four kinds of geese(graylag, greater white fronted, greater canadian and barnacle goose) in one shot. And egyption geese to complete(with last weeks brent geese) the geese in our part.

Hi, Rog! Thanks!

I love that you stopped by here. Yeah, the Grebe and its mate were both curled up and slept most of the time I was there.

Ah, I see. Thanks, Nigel.
I did a bit of reading since asking my question and apparently they have been reintroduced in the UK and are breeding there again. Here’s an article in the NG-UK about it, although the title says it all: https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk …-nesting-in-britain-again (external link)

Wow, four species of geese in one frame. Pretty cool to have captured that.

Not something I see everyday, it somehow reminded me of Four seasons in one day(Crowded House).

Thanks awfully for the positivity, it's helping me get over the disappointing day out :lol: I'm never disappointed really, even if there's nothing to photograph an hour or two just sat quietly watching is always a good thing for the head :)

cheers folks :)
