R6 with Sigma 150-600c - Does it perform?

I've put my Sigma 150-600c up for sale as part of a major downsizing of my vast amount of camera gear. Since there has been suggestions that the lens has focusing issues with R-series bodies, I decided to take a R6 body to the zoo to see if I could establish if this was the case or not. I was shooting hand-held, in available light, and can report that I had absolutely no issues with this combination and my keeper rate was essentially 99%.

This debate was fuelled by a couple of videos reporting this, and when I dug deeper into this (discussing with the publisher), I was able to establish that it appears to be specific to the use of the lens with the R7 body - and I have been told that the issue with that body is not isolated to the Sigma. Thus, I put the issue at the doorstep of the camera's focusing system, rather than the lens. If others have a different experience, I would be interested to learn of that.

Here are some images taken with the lens.

Good info, Trevor. And interesting the lens performs well on the R6 when it doesn’t do all that well on the R7.

Thanks for posting this.

Thank you! I think some of the issues are blown out of proportion, because not enough data has been collected. Quite a bit was one lens on one camera, for example.

Does this lens use a 95mm or 105mm filter? I hear there is a big difference in the 2 Sigma 150 - 600 lenses. I have a friend that has the one with the 105mm & wants to sell it. I just haven't been able to get out & try it yet.

Thank you
Gary

Ah, a gold cup. Totally deserved. It’s really pretty. It would look nice on a wall.

I went out to do some milky way photography at the weekend and my camera fell off the tripod a couple of times with the manfrotto plate coming off the camera and remaining in the tripod. First time I thought it must have just been loose but when it happened a second time I returned to car to take the other plate from my zoom lens thinking the issue was the plate. The same thing happened again with the other plate so I think the issue is that the thread for the plate to screw into on the bottom of the camera is damaged i.e the hole in the bottom of the camera where you add the plate.

Has anyone ever had this issue or has any idea of my options? I am thinking it will be a send off to Canon job but just wanted to check there wasn't a cheaper solution involving less time without a camera.

Thanks in advance.
