Sad news to hear. I really enjoyed the quality of information in their forums that my resulted from my google searches. Stuff that goes way back to early Canon digital EF. I wish they would keep that around, especially as one who hasn't made the move to RF and is still enjoys using early EF bodies along side later bodies.

I never became a member but did read the board on a fairly regular basis. I always felt that for every nugget of good information you had to dig through 500 pounds of garbage and nonsense. My favorite type of threads were definitely when a newer photographer asked a question and before an (often simple) answer was given the thread devolved into 3-4 self appointed experts arguing between themselves to see who is the "smartest". Meanwhile the op of the thread has long since checked out and moved on. Of course the utter distain for "youtubers". You can have 10k+ posts on a message board and your opinion is "valid" but someone on youtube is a hack and doesn't know what they are talkinng about. (and no, i am not a youtuber. i hardly have time to even post on any sort of online platform these days). I guess most folks have moved to sites like FB anyway. I'm a member of many photography pages/groups on there and some are better than others. While not the best place to display images, it is definitely easier to access.

Pretty much like POTN :):) Seriously, that describes almost every forum I have ever read. I think its the nature of forums.

It's a terrible loss for the community. The reviews were consistently high quality and a great comparison tool and there was never any feeling of bias around particular camera brands. The reviews helped me pick out my first Canon DSLR nearly 20 years ago and I have been an avid reader ever since.

While I never enjoyed their forums as much as POTN forums it is a massive loss of community knowledge as well.

I hope the writers and editorial staff get a nice severance and find a new home in the photography community.

Similar thing happened to many websites/forums like pocketloox forum, and xda-developers forum... thay are either bought and infiltrated and made useless then shut down, or loss of people actively posting.

Those wealth of resources are still relevant right now, but as technology inevitably progresses, those will be rendered obsolete... but it will be great if the informations are kept and not deleted.

Sad news, DPReview has been such a valuable resource over the years. Can't believe Amazon could be so heartless. Well, I guess I can believe it, it's Amazon after all, it's all about the mighty dollar.

It's too bad Amazon couldn't spin it off in some new form. It seems like there is enough traffic there to make it profitable if only on a lesser scale.

FB is not a place to find technical information about digital cameras.

Not even sure what odd ball DPR forum has to do with DPR unique site with all of the technical data, gear specs and test photos. To me it was the only all in one place on entire web.

DPR site is digital museum of digital cameras and else gear. Shutting it down is act of caveman vandalism. Bamiyan Buddhas comes in mind.

Such a good resource for the past couple decades, and even with Amazon purchasing them years prior, now they are closing down shop. :(

Further impacts from reduced camera sales and manufacturing… I am going to miss using their studio comparison tool.

A huge loss - not only the immense resources but the daily interaction with such a wide array of perspectives of photography.

Tony Northrup made a video when he received this bad news:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gObQ5FgHsZE (external link)

In the video Tony says,

"I'm very mad at Amazon for making this decision ..... it's heartless, and I will not buy camera gear from Amazon again."

I agree wholeheartedly with everything Tony says regarding DPReview and Amazon.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Yet another indicator of the decline of the digital camera.

https://sportsshooter.com/ (external link) went bust

So no big surprise the https://www.dpreview.com/ (external link) will not be actively updated anymore as it does not materially improve sales for Amazon.

Certainly sad news. DP Review and this site are basically the only camera sites that I routinely visit every day or so. Bummer.

Not sure why killing it rather than just spinning it back off as an independent didn't make sense. Amazon is coming out of this with nothing.

I only selectively used the site.... I have stopped reading pretty much anything that was equipment reviews..... not why I do photography... don't read reviews of stoves either... and I love to eat... recipes yes... hardware.... nope

Hope it gets revived in some form though... by someone.

My guess is no one wanted it or at least isn't willing to pay the price.

It's tax time, I'm sure they have a great write-off to balance out there insane revenue.

That could be the reason it failed. People stopped buying new equipment so no one was reading reviews any longer. Reduced traffic = reduced revenue. Once it falls to a certain level, it doesn't make sense to keep it open. Has more value closed. Simple business.
