Think there will be something like a 24-70 2.8 non-IS?

Years ago I was shooting with a 5D and the 24-70 became my workhorse lens.

I am not shooting professionally anymore. Shooting different subjects. And more on location. So I’m appreciating size and weight a lot more.

IS isn’t even useful for me for my primary shooting, and I just wonder if a non-IS would even be released at this point? I definitely want 2.8 over 4 (and the 28-70 f2 is even bigger and heavier!)

I love what they did with the 70-200 f4 vs the EF version and wonder if a more compact primary zoom at 2.8 would be likely.

anyone have any thoughts?

I'd say there is near zero chance.

With the RF 24-70 f/2.8 IS and 28-70 f/2 non-IS versions already available, I highly doubt they would make a 24-70 f/2.8 non-IS. Couldn't you just turn off the IS if it not important to you? I doubt that the IS adds a lot of weight to it. Cost maybe.

Or if weight is a big factor, perhaps just buy a couple fairly fast/cheap primes? EF 85 f/1.8, EF 50 f/1.4 or 1.8, Sigmas, etc.

I, like many, were waiting for an EF 24-70 f/2.8 L IS. Unfortunately never came to market.
Better to have than not.
