Late yesterday I noticed another sign of Spring - a weed growing in the space between the deck boards.

Weeds are seasonal? That's news to me. I have weeds growing between the weeds.

Okay, technically it is Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense) - an invasive perennial that comes back up every spring. It grows 3 feet or more tall, has a big seed head that propagates more grass the next spring. Most farmers will tell you it is a weed and treat it as such. Most folks around here consider it a fire hazard in the fall when it dries up.

Living and learning - thanks for the explanation.
