I've recently read the chicken feed from some stores having so little protein, chickens were no longer laying eggs.

That makes three reasons for the egg shortage. First is the chicken shortage due to avian flu. Second, laying is seasonal, declining in winter.

Markets here are often out of eggs. That's never happened before within my memory. If you can find an egg, some of it scrambled, poached, or boiled, without salt, can supplement the diet for a malnourished cat.

I have noticed that egg prices have increased considerably. We do experience shortages but nothing drastic, fortunately.

Temperature currently at 81°F, is it to early to complain about the heat?

84° here, so I'd say let the complaining begin. Our Texas consortium may be warmer though.

*Edit

87º now. Kind of uncomfortable, but not bad.

We did break a record for warmest April 12th on record yesterday. We hit 82°F. Today we are at 77°F currently, with a high of 80°F. It's sort lived, as Sunday it's projected the high will be 45°F.

AND- Chet's still on Twitter.... for now ....

I don't even kick the AC on unless it hits at least 25.55557c.

28.889 here, and the air is still off. Iowans are tough. I'm from Michigan though, but don't want to put up with the taunting by the Iowans.

Lots of rain predicted for next week. Maybe they can cancel the Red Flag Warning then.

The temperature when you need to turn the AC on depends on the humidity as much as it does the temperature. I was out west just west of Yosemite Park on the Forth of July years ago. It was 118°f/ 47.777°c when I checked into the hotel. It honestly felt no hotter than 92-95°f/ 33-35°c here in the south. The difference is their humidity was less than 15%. Ours is commonly 80-85% or even higher. 85% humidity in the sun will wear you out even it is only 90°f/32°c.

I read that as "LOWANS" and was trying to figure out what a lowan is. I'm a bit slow.

That's ok JJ. I thought your name was Gil for the longest time. I guess I didn't see the tail on the j at first.

This is so true. We have hot, humid summers with humidity in the 80's and some 90's much of the summer, which makes it very miserable. When I bought my house in May and started remodeling in June, there was no AC in the house, and I had to put window units in just so the paint would dry. It gets pretty miserable here, especially when the high humidity mixes with the triple digit temps.

Well, I petitioned to have my house reassessed, and they will be coming out to do that, which is good, as I'm told most requests end favorably for the homeowner. I then stopped in the Treasurers office to see what my new taxes would be without the reassessment, and found I am eligible for a 70% tax credit due to my disability. So, my taxes will be much lower than what I have been paying, even if they don't lower the assessed value of my home. I see this as a good thing. :-)
