I've recently read the chicken feed from some stores having so little protein, chickens were no longer laying eggs.
That makes three reasons for the egg shortage. First is the chicken shortage due to avian flu. Second, laying is seasonal, declining in winter.
Markets here are often out of eggs. That's never happened before within my memory. If you can find an egg, some of it scrambled, poached, or boiled, without salt, can supplement the diet for a malnourished cat.
