Apr 16, 2023 20:11 | #4433 I'm going to be ordering my R7 this week and have a question. I'm about half way through reading all the posts but have not seen if anyone was able to use a Tamron 150-600mm G1 lens on the R7. I really don't want to spend the big bucks on the 100-500 if the Tamron will work.

There is a firmware update for the G2 Tamron 150-600 for compatibility with all EOS R family (see here Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400

I only got the Tamron a couple of months ago and it did not work well on my 80D. Turns out it did not have the newest firmware so I sent it in. I just got it back today and it now works perfectly on the 80D. I'll report back when I get my R7.

I really don't want to spend the big bucks on the 100-500 if the Tamron will work. I haven't seen any useful info on the Tamron website and I haven't called them about any relevant factory firmware update, but my G1 Tamron 150-600 would not AF on my 90D in live view, and won't AF on the R7 or R5, either. Regardless of the switch position on the lens, the viewfinder says "MF". I had sent the lens in for the first firmware update around 2014 or so, so the firmware is that old. There was an update for the original R, I think, but I don't know if it addresses the problem with R7 and R5.
