I'm using the FREEWELL magnetic filters. 5, 10 stops and CPL. It's near 100$ per each. Very handy things! I hate to unscrew "old-fashion" filter just for exposure metering, with magnetic kit it's very easy to do. One bad thing with this kit - you can't add ND Grad to this system because it's always a ring. But I can live with it.

You see color cast on your filter because it is cheap, I guess. I had one ICE 10 stops filter for $20 and it's add so much blue tint on photo that I used it just 1 time.
Good filter must cost much. Last year prices on filters rised even higher. :(

It's not a cheap filter, just one that for some reason gives me that color cast.-?

hm... what filter do you have ? I don't like Variable Neutral Density filters, it's complicated layered construction based on polarizing effect that I no need quite often. Better to have separately all this things...

My Freewell filters add cast as well, but just a hair, I can fix it by moving TINT-slider in LR for just 2-3 points. 2 stacked filters add cast even more, but not tragic, it's all can be fixed very well in post.

A few shots with my recently acquired Canon RF 800mm f/11 lens. Shot at Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina.

Nice images!

Maybe interesting for you: R6 mark 2 working better with 800mm f11 lens because focus area much larger then on old generation eos R... Maybe time to body upgrade. :)

Firecrest. I did watch a YouTube video when I was researching these things, I remember thinking the variable density sounded like a good idea but also had problems, basically two polarizers sandwiched together if I remember correctly. I use a polarizer and small aperture when possible (if its already gloomy), better colors doing that.

You must have read my mind. I have a $50 B&H gift card that expires at the end of May. That, plus the sales tax refund via B&H's Payboo card will save me $200. I plan on upgrading before then -- was just waiting for our tax refunds.

By the way, did you order something from Canon USA web site ? Now there is refurbished 100-400 cost $90 cheaper than on B&H, but I didn't ordered from that store before (actually I order to my friend in USA and than she sending to me in Ukraine).

No need to use aperture more narrow than f16, better to use f8-f11 always, because your lens diffraction softener the image. I used f16 only for star-like lights at evening or for sun-stars, not often as well. So, i'd say that you need some new filter for 6 stops + your polarizer can add 1-2 stops and it's can work for you.

I have ordered refurbished equipment from the Canon website in the past. When they have a sale, you can find some good deals. Their regular refurb prices are not much better than buying new at B&H for me, since I have to pay sales tax on the Canon site but not through B&H using their Payboo credit card.
