Nice pic! Looks like the Yellow Rose got some new paint & insignia changes since I last saw her on December 10th :-)

Between my first time using a super-tele, and trying to get that prop blur… I have a lot to learn. So many missed shots, lol

Now I want to look into post-processing techniques to help bring out those afterburner flames!

Excellent photos!

Sadly, I had to miss this airshow.

Great image- It is an unusual PoV and good focus

INCREDIBLE shot! It looks like you are coasting right above the pilot. I noticed he/she is not wearing a parachute which is risky when performing aerobatics.

Dan

They may be using a seat parachute that, as the name implies, they sit upon. However, you could rightly note that there are only one set of straps visible, while a parachute should show a second set straps besides the restraints.

That's what I noticed, no harness. Seat or back, a harness would be clearly visible (expert parachutist here).

If you're in a Stearman doing low level aeros, would a chute be actually useful? I honestly don't know what safe bailout altitudes are but if you got into trouble, would a stearman get to that quickly? When I think power, I don't think Stearman.. I'd assume you'd just try to down it in a safe manner..

Here's some more of the aussie/kiwi Parrot.. CT-4/A

Generally, one would always wear a parachute when doing aerobatics. Obviously, low level egress would not typically be survivable, but the pilot needs to take this into account when performing maneuvers. If I were in one of the seats, I would definitely wear a rig to give me a back-up chance if something goes wrong. But my experience in sport parachuting is paramount here.

Good shots!

You are right- at low altitudes where you can get a good image of the pilot, depending on the failure, you are landing the plane in a controlled fashion or as a wreck. during my training and subsequent flight reviews, we discuss what I would do in engine failures before rotation, after liftoff, and at various other altitudes. Depending on the field, a sneaky instructor or examiner would see what I would do for real (by setting the throttle to idle). Those aren't 0/0 ejection seats. Stearmans have power but a lot of drag, too!

One should wear a chute for aerobatics, but required crew members (such as the pilot) don't need to do so (ref below). What altitude is needed before those parachutes are effective? Is it possible he has an airframe parachute which falls under the type certification in the citation below, so he doesn't need a personal parachute?
