And now, the end of the story. They found in my favor and reduced my assessment to match what they can consider a comparable home. Two factors played into it. First, I own the only brick home in the neighborhood, and they had no other comparables to use to gauge my assessment on, being the only brick home in the area. Second, I built a garage, which the majority of the other comparable homes do not have. The assessor told me they realized they had not re-assessed the garages in the county in quite a long time, and as a result, all garages were assessed at a full 100% increase. With my reduction, I am now in the range of the other homes, AND my garage assessment is also reduced. The coolest part is that this decision was already made before I walked in the door. Clearly I stated my case with enough detail on my protest form for them to consider my request. I be a happy person today! Forever more shall I pay attention to things like this much closer. I stood up to the Man, dammit! :)

This would get you suspended from the Twitter. Good job, glad you came out no worse for wear.

Thanks, Chet. I guess I'm not the sort of person the Twitter would want. And definitely no worse for wear. It helped that not one of them were a low buck...um, Assessor person.

Congratulations on getting a good outcome! Disputes with local governments can be so scary and frustrating (don't ask me how I know). They don't always end well for the citizen. Your detailed work paid off.

Thanks OhLook. My homework did help greatly. I was nervous as I was never in this position before, however the comps I brought with me along with some pretty good questions really helped my cause, even though I'd won before I walked in the door. I'd be ok never doing this again...

70's and 80's for this next week, with enough chances for rain to help my newly seeded area of my lawn to hopefully fill in and thrive. I can live with this. Just not a fan of the 90's. Summer is sneaking in quietly.

I've never been to any of the major parks, Disney World, Disneyland, Cedar Point and the others. Are the attractions manned by animatronics or are there actual people involved?

Doesn't anyone here know? I can't tell you much. My only visit was to the original Disneyland as a child. Animatronics was a new thing then and got a lot of publicity. There were also employees walking around in M. Mouse costumes. Now Disney hires actors and singers to play characters from the films. The Small World attraction seemed only mechanical.

Yeah, I had the day off from work yesterday. Wanted to cut mine as the weather was perfect. I did my dad's instead. At 82, it takes him all day with breaks. Took me an hour. Also just hung out, he really enjoyed that most of all. I suck at pool.

When I was 12, my dad moved us into a condo. The only way I could mow grass was to get a job with the condo association. I was 14, and mowed every season until I graduated high school. I was pretty lucky, they paid pretty well for mowing, then I also took on the responsibility of taking care of the pool, opening and closing it, checking the chemicals and such. Point is, I didn't suck at pool :) Good job putting your dad ahead of yourself. You're a good son!

The finches, cardinals, some yellow birds and some blue birds are wiping out my bird feeders every day now. I also have a woodpecker who has joined the group. And of course the squirrels are there for the sunflower seeds. This is getting costly! And once you start a season, you really can't quit since they know where I live and they would "retaliate" on my car.

Get a cat... No more birds. Or... get a red tail hawk. No more squirrels. BTW... That was once a moving squirrel he's standing on. Takes about one a day until they are gone.
