I was never aware of this but I also never freelanced. That's horrible that there is no structure in place for the different income levels.

The laws may be different in your state. I was in a group of citizens who protested years ago after something happened that let us know we were classified as businesses and we all owed three years' back taxes plus interest and penalties. Some people were charged more than the income they were taxed on. It wasn't just this city, but also some others in California. Here, some of us met with our City Council member and reps of the other departments involved, for example. As part of this effort, I spent a lot of time looking up laws. One highly relevant fact I found was that there's no universal definition of "business." I was thinking, hey, a real business has its own bank account and its own phone number, I'm just one person working. But that doesn't count officially.

We did get some concessions, but no change to the idea of what a business is, as embodied in the ordinance, and this was the root of the problem. Then something else happened that made things worse again. (I'm leaving out a lot of information.) A structure is in place for different income levels. It's a faulty structure, though, from the point of view of fairness.

Some concessions are nice, which makes them realize they are dealing with a flawed system. The downside is they are used to dealing with a flawed system to the point it's become the norm maybe.

So Callie (now called SweetPea, at the suggestion of the Vet as she may have anxiety from her former abusive family if I used her original name) is not a fan of the food I normally fed my previous cats, specifically Purina Cat Chow Gentle (in the Purple bag). She would throw it up, and got to the point where she simply avoided it altogether. I remembered I had one cat who was like her, and after some research found what I was feeding him, which was Blue Buffalo (now called Blue Tastefuls). I found some of that, and she woofed it down, and keeps it down. It's the "gentle" variety of Blue Buffalo for sensitive stomachs, and so far, it's working. She's fed and happy and I'm saving money on paper towels. The downside is she now eats more expensive meals than I do. I did find smaller bags on Amazon so I'll be going that way once I know for certain this will work out. The only size bag my grocery store had was the Survivalist Size bag, and I'm afraid it may get stale since it's so big and she gets the normal 1/2 to 1 cup of food a day.

Good to know. I like hearing success stories about something I would feed my pets. I don't know much about Blue Buffalo except the name change, which was pointed out on the website. I googled it when I got home.

Well, the city government was corrupt––that was no secret––and once I saw a little of how the sausage was made, it was clear that the various departments were often at odds.

I've lived in many big cities, and now I basically live in Mayberry. Everyone knows everyone else, and except for us outsiders who moved in, it seems everyone is either related by birth or marriage and knows everyone else from birth. Our government doesn't change all that often. Normally someone needs to retire to create a vacancy, and in the area of local government, most people in office will run unopposed for years. Our Mayor has been the Mayor for close to 20 years now, as have the council members. Almost as long as I lived here. The Mayor before him was mayor for 40 or more years. His real job is a car salesman for a local dealership. He sold me my Jeep. Everyone refers to him as Hizzonor. Long story short there is no corruption that anyone is aware of, and it's not unusual for citizens to stop by our government's homes to discuss issues. I think the only questionable abuse of power was when there was a hiring freeze in the city about 10 years ago, yet the Mayors son scored a job as a Police Officer. And like every small town, there was discussions about that at both The Whistle Stop Cafe (best breakfasts in 50 miles, and located right next to the railroad tracks) or the Dutch Oven, which provides the city with an amazing choice of donuts, dutch letters and world famous coffee.

Yes, jay125, what Inspeqtor asked.

And, I've always imagined there was more than one Aunt Bee in Mayberry. How many have you met in your town, jay125?

Yes, and Yes, except for Barney. He's buried up to Mt. Pilot now these last several years.

Straight across Rte 1 until the 4 way stop sign, then left a mile. You'll see the silo long before you see the town.

Yesterday, 80's and severe thunderstorms with hail. Today sunny and 78. Tomorrow...who knows? I'm not sure our weather guys actually went to weather school. The strangest issue was we were getting stormed and hailed on, yet the radar showed nothing.

I learned early on to never NEVER ask how the sausage is made. I still can't eat sausage to this day.
