I didn't mean to imply that it was reasonable! Quite the contrary.

Yes. I was concurring.

From the county fair in 2014. I didn't patronize this booth.

I don't think I've ever had a raw Twinkie. They probably taste good. After all, there must be a reason they're popular. But lots of things taste good whose ingredient lists don't read like the inventory of a chem lab.

Taste good and good for you are opposite ends of the food/nourishment spectrum. The better the taste, the less healthy I have found. Twinkies are ok but not a match for a properly home made sponge cake or a home made chocolate cake. However, they do in a pinch and are better tasting deep fried.

Does a Twinkie taste the same today as it did 45 years ago? I think not. I was a real fan of the Hostess® cherry fruit pie, back in the day. Wonder how it would taste deep fried.

Aren't they already deep fried?
We use to have a small country store/gas station/bait shop that also served food. Sort of one of those lakeside places that serviced the folks headed out on the water. They would smoke a few slabs of ribs and brisket and serve bbq brisket sammies as well as other Texas favorites. The one thing they were known for is their fried pies. They were simply outstanding. Hard to believe they were made at a country store/gas station/bait shop. Unfortunately one of their air conditioners seized a bearing and caught fire. Really damaged the place. Then Covid hit and the family just could not come back from everything. They are no longer in business.

I really want to avoid trans fats and the additives I don't understand. Of course, homemade is better than mass-produced, but then there goes your time. Local bakeries have good stuff, and one reason is their stuff is fresh (we hope). Fresh is important.

Beef sandwich. A little Googling and Wikipedaling (< new portmanteau word) finds the dish JJ is probably talking about (external link).

Beef brisket the breast section of a cow. Here in Texas it is a very common cut as it smokes wonderfully. One of those meats you slow smoke for hours or even over night. It is a very flavorful cut especially with a nice dry rub. Anyway, smoke it for a time until tender, slice thin and stack it up on a hunk of bread. Pour some BBQ sauce over it, top with grilled onions and jalapenos and y'all got a brisket sammy.
