Beach-stone Curlew - two weeks ago, I took some photos and saw that its feet were entangled with fishing lines (see my gallery). We managed to rescue it, and after surgery (and a toe amputation) and two weeks of recovery, we released it on Saturday at the same spot. Such a great bird and a great feeling

Thanks sogs! One of four in Australia: Striated, Spotted, Forty-spotted and Red-browed. Tiny birds, about 4" long. Nest usually in burrows in soft ground like creek banks.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Yes these are much more widespread and are found as far away (from Australia) as India, Nepal and China.
