Hello

I'm very much out of touch with Canon and am about to acquire a new L lens. Can somebody explain, or point me to how I can find an up-to-date list of Canon lens date codes

TIA

Thank you.

I see it only goes up to 2018 so assuming Canon's logic, a lens manufactured in January 2022 should be "09" by my reckoning. If that is correct, then I can work it out when I receive my new lens

So I received my new lens and excited to get to work with it. Done a few quick functional tests to ensure it works etc. It's a 70 200mm f4L IS II lens witha number starting with "16" so by @digit's link above and some guesswork, would I be right in thinking that it was manufactured in August 2022?

This is a phenomenally sharp lens - I have the non-IS version, bought it when it first came out, and it is fantastic to this day.

I think it depends on when Canon reset back to 01. Extending out the date codes following the codes from 208 to 2012, Canon reset at 96 - December 2012. If you figure in 2020 they did the same thing, then a 16 would indicate April 2022. However, since 2020 Canon has been shutting down EF production so without something a little more definitive, I would not rely on the data code scheme as gospel. Then again, does it really matter when it was made? It's a great lens no matter the manufacture date.. no?
