It has been a bit quiet lately, birding-wise, but I managed to get to Lee Point Dam one evening. So many Red-backed Fairywrens at the moment, as it must be mating time. You hear them everywhere, and it's tricky to get a clear shot as these little birds are so quick and hardly sit still. :-)

They'll have to sit still, at least the females will, if they're going to mate, no?

Great to hear they are there! I hope the recent fire at Lee Point doesn't impact them too much. We were seeing them nearly every day at that termite mound stop on our tour. Then about 3 weeks ago a hot fire went through the area and we haven't seen them since.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Rainbow Pittas are getting active at Berry Springs. This one ventured out into the open this morning to grab a morsel.

A couple of great shots, Pippan. Is the R7 still in dry dock?

There is still enough grass and scrub to hide in. The areas directly around the dam did not burn and the open area with all the gamba grass hasn't burnt either.

Yeah, on its way to Canon via the retailer I bought it from. I'd forgotten how hard birds are to get sharp without eye-detect AF.

Sacred Kingfisher with a crab he had just caught. East Point The sun today was that bad I had to spend 20 mins inching my way around him to get the damn sun behind me so his colors could show as evry other angle was horrible black shadows with no color. Normally they only hang around a couple of mins but he was more intent on banging the crab against the rock every few mins to try and crack it open but crab was proving hard to finish off so gave me time to get in position to at least get a bit of color . Must be a juvenile as Ive never seen the head color like this guy has.

Fantastic shot, Clipper! It's so tricky to sneak up on them as there are no hiding spot. Well done!!
