Meanwhile back in Central Iowa, highs for the next 4 days will be in the triple digits. Today, the high will be upper 90's however the heat index will reach 111º by 4pm. We will have a dangerous heat advisory in place and cooling centers are beginning to open for those without air conditioning. The corn seems to be doing well, however.

Sounds like WI as well.

No weather report from TX. It would seem like bragging but I can sum it up in a word effing-hot and will be for the next two weeks it looks like unless one of those hurricanes can work it's way over here.

And on the corn thing, is it as high as an elephant's eye?

Houston hit 108 yesterday. Today will be a nice cooling 102.

Tomorrow a pleasant 98.

But back to 106 Thursday.

So far, we've had over 23 triple digit days this year with more coming.

College Station has had over 50 days this year.

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.

I expected Hurricane Hilary to bypass us here, but it's brushing the area as it proceeds NNE and peters out. There's been 100% cloud cover almost all day, just now starting to break up. The air feels humid. Around noon, the wind speed was unusual for that time of day and year; typically the maximum is at 4 P.M. Then a few drops of rain came at 3 P.M.

I'm 5'8" and its a foot or two taller than I am, so maybe a not so tall elephant? But there is a bunch of it....

They took the 101º temp out today so really it will only hit 98, however the heat index will make it feel like 107º, so like Icopus it will be a cooler day...

I miss San Francisco and wearing a sweatshirt every day.

I don't believe in heat indexes. It's a phony number weather people use to make spice up the weather and make it seem worse than it really is. As an example, I have had visitors from Wisconsin (not Chet) all week. It's been hot here in Dallas with one day hitting 113.9 but most days between 105 and 107. Hot but there is a clear difference between how I perceive it and how they perceive it. When it gets over 95, (early morning), it's already too hot for them and they head indoors. 95 to me seems nice and I do most of the yard work before it gets over 100. So I prefer if the weather people tell us the actual temperature and I can make my own assessment on how hot it is.

The Weather Underground site shows both numbers, which never differ very much anyway. Then you have microclimate variations due to buildings, trees, fences, reflective or absorbent surfaces, traffic, land contours . . . For a useful take on temps, I just go outside.

I have a weather station. I check the temp, then glance at the humidity. If temp over 100, it's hot. If humidity over 60%, it's hot and humid. :):)

I mostly concur. Here they refer to the heat index as the "feels like" temp, so if the prediction is 98 and heat index is 105, it's a feels like 105. But it's miserably hot and humid.

Same here the heat index "feels like"

I looked up heat index to see how it's defined and was surprised to learn that wind speed doesn't enter into it. A breeze makes a huge difference in how you feel when the air is hot. Air movement works like low humidity by taking sweat off the skin. So if the heat index is the same as the "feels like" number, I think it leaves out something important.

There's a reason that "wind chill factor" is named same...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
