When we first got the cabin along the creek, the grandkids were about 4-6 so were at a good age to help me catch some frogs. These little Cricket frogs were the most abundant, and long jumpers, so we had a lot of fun chasing them at that age.

When they are singing, it makes a clicking sound about like shaking a pair of dice in the hand before rolling them.

The only time I’ve seen their sides red like this is when they are singing. I suppose that’s a sign of how much effort it take to squeeze the air enough to project that much sound.

Thanks SO MUCH for the award, I’m thrilled that you liked it. I only wish I could have posted the one that got away on that night. Just out about 12’ from this, in water deeper than my boots, I watched two males fighting over a floating limb about the size of a hammer handle! I wish I’d had the lighting to capture it in video. If I added the right music you’d think they were dancing. The one on top would reach out with its long back leg on one side then the other feeling around for something to grip without ever managing to throw the under-frog off. If I ever get that chance again I’ll just go ahead and let my boots fill.
Thanks again!
