Second try at Saturn with my Meade SCT. A bit better seeing and focus this time. Definitely need to get a focus motor though.

Absolutely. You can motorize and wire all aspects so that they can be operated remotely if you want. My scope is so old that I have to get a third party one, but they may be better anyway.

And thanks!

That is cool! I know if you were to buy a new scope it would come motorized, but being able to take a much older scope and motorize that is a definate plus!

You have been able to motorize telescopes for a long time. The newer invention is the GoTo technology. That required the development and miniaturization of computer technology that we've had sine the 1980's. I still have to find things on my own...

Thanks! Yeah, I thought that one came out great too. Just lucky really that the settings I had for in the open turned out to be great in that little pond in a clearing.

I have both the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM and EF-S 10–18mm f/4.5–5.6 IS STM lenses and both are quite good. The 10-18 is surprising for its low price - IQ is every bit as good as the 10-22 and it has the benefit of IS and lightness.

I'll second both the EF-S 10-22 and 10-18. Especially the 10-18 which came with a great price for a great performer lens. I got the Sigma 8-16 just months before the EFS 10-18 hit the market.-? Great lens, with great flare resistance (the bane of Ultra Wide lenses).

An additional plus over the EFS lenses is that you can fit them to a FF camera without hitting the mirror. IIR you have to remove the Canon EFS 'bump' to fit them to a FF and then you can't use the full focal length range for fear of hitting the mirror. It was as expensive as the EFS 10-22 (but better) but the EFS 10-18 was significantly cheaper. You might be able to find a used one for a price comparable to the EFS 10-18.

Here is a sample at 8mm (the Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona from accross the street.
