That's a trick question. There is no way to determine the speed unless you know the tool type. Are you cutting with brazed or disposable carbide bit?

Silly man. I'm cutting with whatever bit is in the tool holder. For the record, it isn't some fancy schmancy disposable bit. I'm just happy it isn't glowing red whilst turning.

I could be asking you lathe speeds for facing 1.06 diameter 316ss schedule 40pipe on a Colchester lathe? I hate machining 316 stainless.

That's a trick question. There is no way to determine the speed unless you know the tool type. Are you cutting with brazed or disposable carbide bit? Also, is it plain 316, 316L, 316LVM, 316N, 316F. I'm guessing based on previous posts, that it's plain 316.

Very good questions to ask JJ!!

I don't know anything about cucumbers or precision tooling, so I've been an observer. I do know that we are back into a heat wave that is bringing triple digits again for the next few days. If there is an upside to being disabled, it would be that at least I don't have to go outside.

As for the corn, I am told it is indeed as high as an elephants eye! Apparently the state has a really good crop this year, despite our current (now common) drought conditions.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!!!!

Would that be an African Bush or African Forest elephant. It makes a difference. Or maybe an Indian or Sri Lanken elephant. I hope not a Borneo Pygmy elephant. That wouldn't be impressive at all.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

If you're going to be that precise, you need to think about the details. Maybe the African elephant (either kind) is kneeling. Or what if the pygmy elephant stands on its hind legs while being measured?

Very good points. Do we have a precise measurement of a standing pygmy elephant as opposed to a kneeling African elephant? Someone want to that this one? I have a tape measure if you need it. ;):)

No elephants in Texas. They must all be in Iowa making sure that the corn is at eye level I figure.

What about as high as a baby giraffe's eye? I might be able to scrounge up one of those. But then I'll need transport. Anyone have a SUV with a sunroof about baby giraffe neck sized?

It's hard to know without more info. Please provide the length and diameter of Baby G's neck, as well as the height of the base of said neck from the ground. You still got that tape measure?

Thank-you for clearing that up. But is that a male of female gray elephant? It makes a differance. Also, is it a happy or sad elephant. Everyone knows a happy elephant carries it head higher than a sad one. Come to think of it, using an elephant is to complicated. Maybe we should switch to something a bit less variable like a muttaburrasaurus.
