This is an opening bud of a Callistemon (Bottle Brush) shrub in our back garden.

Canon MPE-65 at approx. 3.5:1, tripod mounted illuminated using an off camera, diffused, Canon Speedlite.

That's right, invented in Canada and scarce in the US and elsewhere, although they are becoming more common in the US now. They are very handy and can be a lifesaver when one needs to get a screw in some near-inaccessible spot, because they sit so nicely on the end of the screwdriver.
